meet our residents

Their story is our story.

Every resident’s story is one of strength, survival, and hope. Each individual inspires us everyday with their resilience, trust, forgiveness, humor, and the light they bring to the world. Their stories are our heartbeat, and that heartbeat radiates goodness & friendship to humans and other animals alike.

Receiving a call to help an animal is a moment that saves a precious life and changes our lives, as humans, forever. For us humans, rescuing animals is a labor of love filled with much sadness, joy, disappointment and catharsis. We know that for each pig saved, there are countless more who are just as deserving and in need, and though we know we can’t save every single animal who needs it, we hope to inspire others to walk with compassion and kindness to have their own positive impact on animals.

The residents of CTPR have been saved from abuse, neglect, slaughter, abandonment, and animal testing. Over half of our residents come from two similar situations of neglect and abuse - breeders who became overrun with pigs, and then stopped giving them what they needed to survive. In these situations the pigs are often inbred and suffer from tremendous congenital issues. The rest of our residents come from local animal control, the ASPCA, activists, animal testing - all situations in which they didn't have any other options. For many of our residents, we can't imagine the horrors they witnessed and endured. Rehabilitating these pigs has been both physical and emotional for them, and for many, there is still work to be done.

Why neighborhoods? People live in neighborhoods, and as we say, pigs are people too! We aim to help people “see pigs differently,” and that begins with adjusting our language away from ‘farm’ or ‘zoo’ vernacular that may feel impersonal or product-driven.
