Of the West Village
One of the largest neighborhoods in the EPF, Yaupon Canyon is home to an eclectic group of many seniors and the OG rescues. Named for Yaupon Holly, one of the most prolific flora in the Enchanted Pig Forest! Yaupon is the only naturally caffeinated plant in North America.

Eleanor
The First Pig of CTPR. In 2015, Dan bought Eleanor as a piglet off of Craigslist. She taught him so much about pigs, that it caused him to then adopt Franklin and Annie. Once he began to see the differences among them, and the common mistakes pig parents make, it inspired him to do more for the pig parent community.

Wilbur
Wilbur was surrendered by his family in 2016. He was so heartbroken he couldn’t even be coaxed out of Dan’s truck for his first evening. Today, Wilbur is outgoing, loves attention, and has many many friends.

Zoey
Zoey was saved from a testing lab in 2017. Animal testing is usually terminal, so her release was nothing short of a true miracle. Zoey was being used in the testing of reproductive drugs. Zoey is an Ossabaw Pig and is one of the smartest, most clever pigs we know. She has the rare social gift of being able to mingle between cliques and is universally loved by all.

Daley
Daley was picked up by animal control as a stray. Today, Daley is still a shy boy around humans but loves his pig family.

Maybelle
Maybelle was abandoned as a baby and because she looked like a big pig, she was going to go to a livestock auction in Amarillo. Rescuers intervened and drove her to us. Today Maybelle is a shy girl around humans but is large and in charge among her pig family!

Folsom
Folsom was a stray picked up by Animal Control. He’s an American Guinea Hog and is an absolute sweetheart who only trusts those who have proven themselves to him.
The Bastrop Cruelty Seizure
survivors of neglect & abuse
In October 2016, 70 pigs were seized from the property of a local breeder called Miso Happie Mini Pigs. The caretaker for the property left the animals with no food, water, resources, or shelter, and many pigs were found dead and decaying on the property. Of those seized, 25 died in holding. The judge ruled that the breeder could take back her healthy pigs, but she ultimately decided to surrender all survivors to CTPR.
Within the first couple of weeks, four more pigs passed away.
Since then, our Bastrop pigs are so happy to call CTPR home, but some continue to work through the emotional traumas they experienced. With lots of effort from our Animal Care Team Members, we some of them are only now opening themselves up to trusting humans. We love them at every phase of their journey.
Regrettably, the humans responsible for these acts were insufficiently prosecuted, and she committed the same acts in Killeen in January 2020. A seizure of 50+ pigs occurred, and those pigs were lucky enough to find their way to another rescue called My Pig Filled Life.

the Kunekunes
ATLAS, BELA, DORA, & GEORGIE
Kunekunes are a type of pig native to New Zealand, and nearly faced extinction with hunting practices. In the US, they've become fashion pets because of their precious faces & easy-going demeanor. As a result, they're often the victims of unfair breeding practices.
All of the kunekunes were saved in the Bastrop Cruelty Seizure. Because they were in the best condition of the entire group, the judge actually allowed the breeder to keep all of the kunekunes. Fortunately, she surrendered them.

Our seniors are full of spunk & are confident in who they are! Rose is a shy girl, except when there are snacks around. Logan is a sleepy guy who looks like wolverine when he blows his coat. Nobody messes with Petunia...she's the toughest gal we know! Sophia is an elegant lady. Lori is a shy girl but tough as nails as a breast cancer survivor.
